Supporting the Future of Engineering Through Apprenticeships and T-Levels

At CovElec, we believe in investing in the next generation of skilled professionals. That’s why we are proud to collaborate with Leicester College to provide apprenticeships and T-Level placements in mechanical and electrical engineering.

As National Apprenticeship Week 2025 approaches (10th–16th February), we are excited to celebrate the achievements of our apprentices and highlight the opportunities available for young people entering the industry.

Building Careers with Leicester College

Through our partnership with Leicester College, we provide T-Level students and apprentices with hands-on industry experience, allowing them to apply their technical knowledge in real-world settings. T-Levels are a fantastic pathway for students looking to combine classroom-based learning with extended work placements, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed for a successful career in the engineering industry.

At CovElec, we offer mentorship, practical training, and real-world projects that help bridge the gap between education and employment. By working alongside our experienced engineers, apprentices gain insight into the latest electrical technologies, installation techniques, and safety standards – key skills that make them job-ready from day one.

Apprentices in Action: Jack & Abdi’s Journey

At CovElec, we take great pride in supporting our apprentices as they progress through their careers. Two shining examples of this commitment are Jack and Abdi, who both started their engineering journey as T-Level students at Leicester College two years ago. Their dedication and hard work led them to successfully apply for an apprenticeship role with us, and from September 2024, they have now entered their first year of a three-year Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

  • Jack, currently working towards a Machining Apprenticeship, has gained hands-on experience in Turning, Milling, and Boring on both Manual and CNC Lathes. To further refine his machining skills and develop a greater understanding of engineering processes, Jack is spending time in our fitting department, working alongside our engineers to learn all aspects of the trade.
  • Abdi, now in his third year as a Mechanical Fitter, is currently in his first year as a Mechanical Apprentice. Under the guidance of our team, he has learned the correct and ethical approaches to the job, enabling him to competently strip and inspect Motors, Pumps, and Gearboxes.

Both Jack and Abdi have also gained valuable experience working with our Site Service Team, assisting on multiple jobs in the field, further expanding their knowledge and hands-on skills in a real-world environment.

At CovElec, we are committed to upskilling our apprentices, pushing them to develop and grow under the guidance of our highly knowledgeable and experienced engineers. By providing structured training and ongoing support, we ensure that apprentices like Jack and Abdi are well-equipped to build successful careers in the engineering industry.

National Apprenticeship Week 2025: Inspiring the Next Generation

National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to celebrate the success stories of our apprentices, share insights into their journeys, and inspire more young people to explore apprenticeships and T-Levels. We have seen first-hand how these programs transform raw talent into skilled professionals, and we are committed to continuing our support for the next generation of engineers.
